Community leaders celebrated at special breakfast by Andrew Mitchell MP
Sutton Coldfield's MP has celebrated the 'generosity' and 'commitment' of the Altruistic Movers and Shakers group at an early morning breakfast.
Andrew Mitchell joined the diverse group of civic leaders from local businesses, schools and charities to thank them for their community initiatives.
The group, organised and hosted by Waitrose, is an extension of the company's commitment to fostering a cohesive community.
Following the meeting Mr Mitchell said: "Waitrose's Community Matters Box is a generous and innovative scheme.
"Although a modest conception it is effective in reaching and supporting projects at the heart of the community.
"It is always encouraging to see the generous spirit of multi-national organisations like Waitrose coming together with local organisation to the benefit of local residents and groups."
Sutton's MP first heard about Waitrose's commitment to local projects via its 'Community Matters Box' in local branches.
"Our Royal town is lucky to have such a wide base of volunteers who work so hard on our behalf," Mitchell added.
The initiative pays out £1,000 every month to local good causes by asking shoppers to place a token in the box of the cause they would like to support from a choice of three.
The Community Matters Box has donated £14million to local charities chosen by customers nationwide since its inception in 2008.
