Andrew Mitchell MP visits Elmhurst Ballet School

The Royal Town’s MP has highlighted the importance of Government and local support for the arts while visiting the prestigious local Elmhurst Ballet School to learn more about the important work that the school carried out in training the next generation of dancers and musicians.

The Music and Dance Scheme (MDS), operated by the Department for Education, allows young dancers and musicians from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend world-class institutions like the Elmhurst Ballet School which is in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet. The music and dance scheme currently funds 112 talented young artists including those from the Royal Town, who could not otherwise afford to attend the world-leading school in classical ballet at Elmhurst in Birmingham.

Andrew said:

“Elmhurst is a world-renowned but local dance school and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the hugely impressive students from across the world - including from the Royal Town - who attend this magnificent institution.

“Since I last visited Elmhurst almost 10 years ago, this magnificent local facility has gone from strength to strength. We should be very proud that here in the West Midlands, we have one of the best ballet schools in the world.”
