Andrew Mitchell MP Opens First Bespoke Tailor, Selwyn Lloyd Tailoring, in the Royal Town
Last Thursday the Royal Town was the place for the fashion conscious as London menswear tailor Selwyn Lloyd opened a new branch in Wylde Green.
Selwyn Lloyd Tailoring is the brainchild of Sunil Chopra who has been tailoring for 20 years. He has partnered with a long standing customer to bring the high-end brand to the Royal Town.
The company boasts an enviable international client list, including royalty from Kuwait and Qatar, as well as sports stars including the Middle East’s FIFA delegation.
The team aim to bolster the regional fashion industry and boost the local economy by bringing Saville Row tailoring to the Town. In addition to their retail business the company is also in discussion with the Birmingham Fashion School to create opportunities for graduates by way of internships and graduate schemes. Such a partnership would give up-and-coming designers the opportunity to get international experience by introducing them to techniques from across the world’s most fashionable cities, from, Milan and Frankfurt to Toronto, New York and Dubai, giving them a chance to promote and learn craftsmanship from top designers.
At the opening Mr Mitchell said, “Selwyn Lloyd is a shining example of entrepreneurship nurtured by our enterprising locals and delivered for the benefit of its customers and local economy. The Tailors will be bringing a wealth of commercial and retail expertise and offering something unique to Suttonians and I was pleased to join them on their opening day.”
Founder, Sunil Chopra said: “today’s fashion is all about formal and contemporary wear. Aligned to today’s lifestyles for men and women. We create bespoke suits, so that you wear it well – it doesn’t wear you!”
“In our collection we present fabrics from Scabal, Holland & Sherry amongst others. Classic weaves including whipcords, cavalry twills and Bedford cords in a series of classic and contemporary colours. Fabrics that typify British tradition suitable for city and country wear. The collection of fabrics is collated weather-wise and occasion wise. It’s about why you wear it and where you wear it.
“We build up a client’s wardrobe. We account for the behaviour of the suit, the posture, the walk, the weather and the durability. From ultra light linen to 22oz tweed, our ethos is to craft the DNA of the garment that’s ideal for you.”
