Andrew Mitchell MP meets with Peddimore property developers to discuss major commercial development at the Peddimore site

Andrew Mitchell MP has met with IM Properties for discussions about their emerging proposals for the first phase of the development of Peddimore and was accompanied by Cllr Charlotte Hodivala, newly elected to Birmingham City Council.

During the meeting, Andrew Mitchell made it clear that the Developers should consult and engage with his constituents and local businesses in Sutton Coldfield in a constructive and user-friendly way where the views of local people will truly shape and refine the proposals.

Mr Mitchell also said that Peddimore must be able to facilitate top brands in keeping with the nature and context of Sutton Coldfield. The aim should be to have a small number of top brands which provide strong employment opportunities for local residents rather than “a bunch of sheds”.

IM Properties has a track record of local investment having invested £750m in development projects across the Midlands which includes the Birch Coppice Business Park.

Following the meeting: Andrew Mitchell said:
“I have come out of this meeting slightly more optimistic having received cast-iron assurances that the commercial development at Peddimore will be high-quality, looking to attract international manufacturing and logistics businesses which will provide employment opportunities for my constituents.

“I would like to reassure my constituents that we will be working in the best interests of the local community to ensure that Sutton Coldfield has significant input and control of these developments. I am also determined that local Councillors including from our Royal Town Council, along with Cllr David Barrie who leads for us on these issues on Birmingham City Council, will play a full part as the proposals develop.”

David Smith, planning director at IM Properties, said:
“We welcomed the opportunity to meet with Mr Mitchell and discuss the significant social and economic boost that Peddimore will bring to the area, creating new jobs from a high quality employment park which will be home for major national and international businesses.

“Our vision is to create a great place to work which would include well-designed buildings, sensitive landscaping, innovative technologies, first-class management and facilities to deliver growth in a considerate way.

“We are still at the early stages of developing proposals for the site. Later this year we will be consulting with local people and stakeholders to ensure their views are considered, to help shape the best possible scheme for Royal Sutton Coldfield and the wider area.”

City Cllrs David Barrie and Ken Wood have also subsequently met the representatives of the IM Group to reinforce Andrew Mitchell’s view that Sutton Coldfield needs high quality, long-term employment. They also expressed residents’ concerns about traffic, access to the site and potential disruption by construction work.

Cllr David Barrie said:
“We will be ensuring that the IM Group engage with residents at the soonest possible point – and are hoping that we can arrange a meeting as early as July”.
