Andrew Mitchell MP Makes Pre-Christmas Visits to: Fairfax, Vesey & Penns Lane Primary

Andrew Mitchell has made a tour of a number of local schools in the run up to the Christmas break.

He visited Wylde Green Primary School to talk to Year 6 about a recent project that they had completed on climate change. He also visited Penns Lane Primary School and led their morning assembly, followed by a stimulating question and answer session on a wide range of issues – both national and international – as well as about the nature of his job and the history of the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield. He highlighted our proud heritage and good fortune to live in such an interesting place.

Andrew Mitchell then met with students at both Fairfax School and Bishop Vesey School to discuss political developments in a year which everyone agreed had been unprecedentedly exciting on the political side. Andrew was able to give his insights into what was going on in Westminster, and how the reshaped government has responded to the various challenges that have arisen over the last year.

Turning to international issues with the students, Andrew discussed developments in Syria and Yemen, and the importance of British leadership on international development and humanitarian issues. As Co-Chair of the Friends of Syria APPG Andrew was able to give an illuminating commentary on the discussions going on regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria, particularly in East Aleppo, and an insight into the long-term thinking going on in Government.

He said “after what has been a tumultuous year in both British and global politics I think we are all looking forward to a bit of festive cheer, and having some time to spend with close friends and family. I know how hard students have worked this term, and have been impressed by their various achievements. I wish them, and of course all their teachers and the support staff, an enjoyable and well deserved break”.
