Andrew Mitchell MP joins Town Junior School’s Year 6 for morning assembly
The Royal Town’s MP has visited students at Town Junior School following an invitation from the Headteacher, Mrs Adrienne Smith.
Andrew attended a Year 6 early morning assembly and spoke to pupils about his role as the Member of Parliament for Sutton Coldfield as well as highlighting some of the issues that he feels are important in the Royal Town. He then answered questions for the pupils who had recently visited the Houses of Parliament. He added to the official tour they had taken by describing places in the Palace of Westminster, and some of his favourite stories from his time as Sutton Coldfield’s Member of Parliament.
In addition Andrew visited each year group in their classrooms and took one question from each class. Questions ranged from his life as an MP to what career he wanted to be when he was a child (a fighter pilot) to questions about the EU and the American election.
Following his visit Andrew said “Over recent years there has been an increase in the number of schools that bring groups of young children to visit the Houses of Parliament and I think the Parliamentary Education Unit run an excellent programme which stimulates young minds to take an interest in the running of their country. This was very much reflected in the questions and interest shown by the pupils at Town Junior School and made for a really interesting visit”.
